Well I am usually not one to post a recap of an evening’s activities, but this one is easy enough:

We had four players join live Vassal tonight. Rick Lacy and myself were flying Camels(110)up against Carl and Andy Priest flying an Alb DVa and a Fokker DVI respectively. Game date was June of ’18. Mission took place at 11,000′, with clouds mercifully situated below at 8100-8900′.

Germans rolled for surprise and succeeded in coming in out of the sun to the north of the hapless Brits. Andrew dished out 7 hits to my Camel including one hit to the center wing, which of course resulted in snake-eyes on the pilot hit chance. Of course the night would not be complete without me in turn rolling a 6 for pilot wound type, resulting in instant and unsuspecting death from above. Rick took a good six hits but was much less affected than his wingman.

After losing initiative on the next turn, perhaps from the shock of watching his wingman fall out of control towards the ground below, Rick was pretty much forced into a dive towards the clouds beneath him. After getting one more round of shots at Rick (Andy missing, Carl dealing four more hits), Rick regained initiative on the Bosch for the next turn. Of course the game was over at that point, with the safety of the clouds just within reach.

So Andy moves out to California, then on his very first game in a new home and with new internet connection, his rookie pilot scores a kill against Chesterford Worthington, my 3/0 pilot fresh out of the Milwaukee mini-con. I declare my house-warming gift to Andy fulfilled!

Well one game was enough for the night, at least for me anyway (you gotta feel a little gun-shy after dying in the surprise round you know!). Perhaps we will get the live gaming back to greater turnout now that the summer is ending. At this rate, my pilot roster should be completely empty by the end of the year too… :side:

Keep your eyes to the virtual skies every Sunday and Monday night. Hope you can join us for some live Dawn Patrol on Vassal!

    Mark Stevenson
