ParticipantWe had a foursome last night with the highlight being Kurt getting 3 kills in 2 missions!
Mission #1- Sept 1917. Kurt & John H attacking an Allied balloon in an Alb DV & Pflaz DIII vs. AP & John B in British Nieuports. The Germans were able to dive in & blow up the balloon… the Nieups then dove in to avenge, but lost iniative early. 2 nasty wing crits slowed AP up too much, and the hungry Bosch blew his left wing off.
Mission #2- July 1918. John H & AP in Bristols vs. Kurt & John B in a DVII & Pfalz Dr1. The mighty mighty Bristols chased the Germans off the board

Mission #3- Oct 1916, high altitude Kurt & John H are on a French bombing mission. John is flying his trusty Caudron G4, escorted by Kurt’s Nieuport 11. John B (Eindecker) & AP (Alb DII, 30/10 pilot!) climb up to intercept… Turn one the French have the height advantage and the bomber moves first, diving slightly to invoke a fight. AP climbs his max but in the 3rd bracket can only get a 200ft bot shot on the bomber. Kurt moved next, and much AP’s dismay… John H started talking about ‘the gap’… Kurt, being notorious for bad H-O opportunties of course bit… and before AP could even complain about table talk… the Nieuport swooped in for the 50ft HO.
What happened next seems to be the essence of the game we have come to love and hate. The twin gunned double ace has the opportunity to shred the feable Nieuport for its idiotic move, but alas, rolls a ‘6’ and misses. The wing gunned rookie Frenchman hits, does one point of damage, rolls a ‘2’ then alas, another ‘2’…
For the first time in his long FitS career, AP has been shot down without taking a single point of damage to the plane!! A critical wound sends the Alb diving towards his e-field. The trusty Eindecker stays to fight & avenge his fallen comrade, damaging both the Nieuport & Caudron, but a few turns later the Nieuport was able to swoop in for a top attack…3 points of damage, one in the CW, and the rookie rolls double 1’s!! Both Germans CW diving for their e-field, the rookie Frenchman scoring a double kill on his first mission!
AP’s luck was not all used up for the night though, and the ace was able to stay awake to get the plane to 500ft, where he attempted to barrel it in & managed a rough wing setdown…the dice gods favored the pilot with a roll of’15’ for survival and a ‘6’ for incapacitation, so he will be back to repay the favor another day!! Unfortunately his wingmate passed out at 250ft, falling to his demise
