There are a couple DP rules that have always left me scratching my head. The first is the fact one gains one square of horizontal movement for every 100′ dived, yet there is no corresponding loss of movement when climbing. As we all know, DP games have an ahistorical tendency to constantly gain altitide. I’m thinking the biggest reason for it is because climbing has no cost. If movement was lost for climbing, it would make things a lot more realistic.
My second issue are rotary rights. I understand DrI’s and Camels and Snipes could use the gyroscopic effects of their spinning rotaries to quickly turn to the right, but why isn’t there a corresponding loss of turning ability to the left? Rotary rights are a massive advantage and I’d think the rule would be any DrI, Camel, or Snipe needs to fly two squares straight before executing a 45 degree left turn.
I believe we do dot lose movement for climbing for simple playability. It keeps the game simple. I can say that we (the AZ club) tried that but it really just added unneccessary bookeeping.
On your second question I can only offer empirical evidence.
Some motorcycles have rotary engines and the bike can almost pull you over when you make a right. And yet when driving straight or making a left the engine does not drag on you. I
