Scott Kolar
ParticipantHello everyone,
My name is Scott Kolar. I am very new to this forum and the Dawn Patrol Game. I have had a copy of this game since the early 1990’s. I received it from a friend and have never opened it until recently. It was brand new untouched by the previous owner. I am very anxious to learn how to play. I love flying and aviation my whole life. I currently fly RC airplanes (gas and electric). I cannot believe I have not looked at this game until recently. I am currently unemployed (5 months) and is probably why I have taken the time to explore this wonderful game. I look forward to chatting with and possibly meeting some of you wonderful folks.

InactiveHey Scott, Welcome!
I take it your cookie issue is resolved since I see you in here. Or, were you attempting to signup with FITS when it happened?

ParticipantHi Dan,
Thank you for your kindness. I was able to resolve my cookie issue. I am glad to be a part of the group and very anxious to learn how to play Dawn Patrol. I am a very avid Aviation nut!! LOL.

InactiveScott,
While it may be intimidating since you are new – you should consider trying to attend the Annual Spring Mini-Con that is happenning in Milwaukee at the end of April. Here is a link to the event page:
Other than that, if we can get a few of the Minnesota guys to see these messages, maybe we can get a Virtual Dawn Patrol game night setup.
Andy or John, you guys up for it sometime next week?
Dan

ParticipantDan,
Thank you for the invite. I have been trying to understand the mechanics of the game. I did have a friend help me play the game once for a few turns to try to get the feel of it. He could not devote his full attention as he was working at the time. He owns a gaming store in Deephaven.
How much does it cost for the convention? I do not know that I could make it to the convention but I would like to entertain the idea.
Is a Virtual game night via the internet? Sorry for all the questions. I am curious and excited. I hope I do not sound too weird. Thanks again for your information.

InactiveThe cost for the convention is usually very minimal – unless of course you stay at the hotel (that you reserve on your own – there should be a FITS rate).
If I remember right past MiniCon costs were only around $10 to $15 and you can of course join FITS in person there if you wish (which is an additional $12).
Virtual Dawn Patrol is indeed online. All you need is to download a few items to get setup.
NOTE: Many of these files are found in our Downloads area, but these links will be sure get you the latest versions of each.
1 – An up to date Java Runtime – Java Runtime
2 – The Vassal Game Engine – Vassal Engine
3 – The Virtual Dawn Patrol module for Vassal – Dawn Patrol Mod v1.2
4 – Teamspeak 3 (Optional) – Teamspeak 3 – once downloaded you can connect to my Teamspeak server to try it out at roguegroup.no-ip.com:9987 (the address is roguegroup.no-ip.com and the port is 9987).
5 – Players! The hardest part is getting people online to play it at the same time. I am off next week for Spring Break with my kids and would love to get an evening of VDP in after they goto bed some night.

ParticipantHi Dan,
I was able to download the information you included in your last post. Thank you so much! This is very cool! I have been looking at it here this morning and trying to figure it out.
I did download the TeamSpeak that you had a link to. The problem is that I do not have a microphone for my computer. That won’t do me much good will it! Being out of work kind of limits the items I can purchase. I do not know the cost of a microphone for the computer. I guess I can price them out locally here.
It would be fun to play online. As I previously stated, I am new and trying to learn the game so I have no real idea what I am doing yet. LOL.
Thank you for being so kind and helping me get started. I look forward to becoming a regular and playing with and possibly meeting you sometime in the future.

ParticipantHey Scott,
There is quite a contingent up in Minnesota so you may not be to far away from a game. We will have to drop the Priests a note and see if we can hook you up:)

ParticipantJoseki,
Hello and thank you for the information. I would love to meet some of the local pilots here in Minnesota. I had sent a request to join the Minnesota Squadron and am waiting to see if I am approved. I really look forward to playing with you guys, once I know what I am doing that is LOL. Take care.

ParticipantDan,
I have a question. I had requested to join the Minnesota Ghost Squadron. I see my request is pending approval. Do you know who takes care of that? Is it you or is there someone in Minnesota in charge of the group?
Scott

InactiveThat is CubsFan4Life also known as Andy. Although I should have access to. Let me see if I can approve you and then you can broadcast a message to those guys.

MemberScott,
There is a small group of us that play a couple times a month here in the cities. I’m meeting up with a few of them tonight and we’ll try to set up a weekend game if you would like to make the drive into town to play in person.

ParticipantDutch,
Thank you so much for the invitation!! I would love to meet up with you guys. As you may know, I am very new to the game and am still trying to learn all the mechanics. I am currently unemployed so week nights or week ends are not a problem. I would need some advance warning so I could arrange to be there. I hope that we can get together soon and play. I am very excited to play and meet you fine folks!

ParticipantDutch,
Do you know Andy Priest? I understand that he is the Squadron leader for the Minnesota Ghost Squadron. I had sent in a request to join and I have not heard back as of yet. I have been chatting with Dan in Chicago and he has been a great help to me. All I need is to purchase a microphone/headset for my computer and I could play online.
