ParticipantI am starting a Dawn Patrol (TSR game) campaign game with my game group and the pictures below show the culmination of about 12 months of preparation:
1. Purchasing 1/144 WW1 air planes (and WW2 but those are not ready yet) painting them and having them painted.
2. Creating hand painted 8 X 4 air war board.
3. Created custom stands form scratch, bases, tubing, magnets, clips etc.
4. Plexiglass hand etched and inked to duplicate squares on dawn Patrol board (this 8X4 board is actually larger than regulation board).Enjoy the pictures!

ParticipantMK2,
Both maps are AMAZING! I have been wanting to do a new trench map for some time now, and now I have an example to aspire to!Where abouts do you play? Any chance of yourself or anyone from your group making the mini-con?
I am really interested to hear how the campaign works as well…would you or someone from your squad be willing to start a ‘squadron page’ on the DP.org site and do some after action reports on the site so we can follow your progress?

MemberThat is amazing! I would love to play in a campaign style game. If it could be kept going on Vassal that would be neat.
MK2 Please keep us updated here.
can’t wait to hear and see more.
And as Cubsfan4Life asked where are you located. Just so I know where to plan my next vacation:laugh:

ParticipantOur group is located in Florida-central and south (some being as far away as a few hours) . We have a total of 10 players and hope to start a squadron page.
I just recently joined FITS (I have been playing dawn patrol on and off for (24 years)and would like to know if anyone is keeping track of stats nation wide for anyone still playing and hoping for 8th edition?

InactiveCheck out the DP-PILOTS tool on the FITS Only tab. You can enter your pilot data here. I will soon have Squadron/Player stats listed based on what is entered. Also, it is our hope that the new Worldwide Ace List could come from this data. The problem is not everyone will enter their data. I have to admit, I haven’t even entered all of my pilots yet – I need to bump it up on the priority list I guess!

ParticipantOk update to the game.
8 Players showed up and we had quite a furball. One Albatros was shot down (pilot hit) and all others planes went home with plenty of holes (and one lightly wounded newly minted Ace).
Enjoy the pictures

Here is a picture of my mini collection, the ones on the top shelf are pre painted Wings of War miniatures (from fantasy flight games). You do not even have to paint them or assemble them. The bottom is old school assemble and paint 1/144 from skytrex http://www.skytrex.com/. I also have a bunch of two seaters finshed that are not shown.

MemberMK2,
As before great pics. That trench map is outstanding.
Are you using any special/house rules, like repair and replacement Aircraft? Are you doing any 2 seater missions.
How often do you plan on meeting.

ParticipantMK2,
If you dont mind me asking, where were you able to get the skytrex models? I have seen them online for sale from UK companies, but have not found them here in the states.
I have very little experience building models but would like to learn…do you think these would be too difficult/frustrating to build for a novice? I sure would love to build a few Hannovers & Halberstadts!!March 18, 2009 at 7:47 pm #7163MK2
ParticipantI order directly from Skytex here:
http://www.skytrex.com/index.html?lang=en-uk&target=d136.htmlI have ordered about 90 planes form them and decals and have had no problems. They take about 10 days ot be delivered to the US.
The assembly is easy (some small metal pieces), its the paint jobs that might be more difficult. There are also 1/144 pre painted (very little assembly) world war one models from Bandai. You can buy them from 1/144 direct eBay storehere (I highly recommend 1/144 direct, greats service):
scroll down on this page and you will see some pre painted ww1 1/144 stuff
Cubfan, I uploaded an avatar picture but it does not show…any ideas?

My guess is that Dan or Cubsfan may have to give it permision, I’m sure they will take care of it as soon as they can.

InactiveMK2,
I should get a notice when an Avatar pic is uploaded, because I do have it set to require approval. I did not get a notice in this case, so please check the image file size and let me know what it is here. If you can tell me the image width and height that would help too. I thought I bumped all that up (even though the upload page shows a rather small limit).
Thanks

ParticipantThanks Dan, will do…
Here are pics form last night’s game. The 94th Aero was escorting a Bristol Fighter over an enemy aerodrome. The Bristol was tasked with a recon mission. The Germans attacked fiercly and scored a mind bending 3 engine hits on one pass by an older Albatross! The Bristol started smoking yet ultitmatley completed the misison and forced a Fokker DVII down to boot!
I also include pictures on the Balloon hunting misisons that will take place in a few days and how I created the balloons by going to a craft store this afternoon.
Enjoy!

Captain Luis scores a Fokker in his Bristol.

InactiveI love it! I too have been hosting miniature games with some novice church friends here (check the website gallery for my approach to miniature play that was originally influenced by Andy P. ) We were talking about having a balloon mission and I was trying to come up with a way to this too. I am going to try your method. Nice work man!

ParticipantThanks! I have seen your stuff and I love it!
I got all the stuff at a craft store called Michael’s (you might have one near you).
The cross and cockade I simply printed from the internet, cut it out, and glued it on. The wires I bent a little to simulate the Balloon sort of floating up.
I also plan to add fins and an observer basket but that is good enough for now…I am glad you enjoyed the pictures.

ParticipantThis was our 3rd mission on August 3, 1918.
We had a “what you see is what you get board” that included a trench line, with opposing balloon brigades facing each other. On top of that there was also random automated recon planes flying up and down the trench. It was equal parts dangerous and fun time for the hunters.
Jasta 11 and the 94th aero squadron really went at it and it was a draw.
There were 4 kills including both the German and American balloons as well as a DH4 and LVG 2 seater planes shot down out of the sky.
Lieutenant raymer of the French Escadrille also scored a very lucky balloon kill where he was almost shot down.
Enjoy the pics and read the captions for details…
The mission starts! Jasta 11 and the 94th jockey for position.

Pilots James Cunningham (3 kill pilot and Captain of the 94th) and Delvecchio (12 mission pilot of the 94th) aggressively strike the Drachen on the second turn.

The balloon goes up in flames, Cunningham gets lucky and scores 5 hits to Delvecchio’s 4 and confirms the kill.

Emil Vogel and Helmut Stenier of Jasta 11 sandwich Charles Burdick of the 94th with a bottom and top attack at 50 feet! Burdick gets away unscathed.

Von Liebau of jasta 11 scores his 4th confirmed kill! he needed to score the maximum amount of hits on the right wing to bring the DH4 down.

Emil Vogel scores an allied balloon after braving enemy fire

Emil Vogel in his trusty Pfalz stalks an American SPAD XIII

The Balloons are down and the chase is on!

Cunningham blast a crippled two seater for his second confirmed victory (at 300 foot altitude) (4 turns of firing…) and becomes an official ace!

Jean Raymer sustains 3 engine hits on first pass at balloon and scores a killing blow.
