ParticipantIt was brought to my attention that we do not have a thread running for the current e-games they are starting, so let’s get one started!!!
We have TWO games starting up now, so it’s great to see VEDP back up and running!!
Feel free to posts questions, banter, anything you like!

ParticipantHi Andrew,
I got the updated information booklet from John H. last night. Wow, there is a lot of information in there. I hope I am up to the challenge. This should be a lot of fun! I look forward to receiving the email.

MemberHi,
I am interested in playing the email version but do not know what I would need apart from email of course. Where can I find the rules or a place to buy the game please. Also, the printable VDP Mat link here is broken, is there another one?February 27, 2012 at 12:17 am #7745Mark Stevenson
MemberHello VFC Baxter!
I hope that pasting this link will lead you to instructions to load the Vassal program:

[/url]As far as the email games, we just finished one up today as a matter of fact. I ran it, and am in need of a break before I run another one. If anyone else steps up and runs one, I am sure they will post in the email games thread as a notice of an upcoming game beginning.
If you manage to load the Vassal program, I would advise you try to meet the group online on either Sunday or Monday nights. We play live online and just meeting you will be a good step in the direction of starting up another email game.
Hope to see you soon!

MemberHi Mark,
Thank you for your response. I see you are in Chicago. I am in Adelaide, South Australia and the main reason I am interested in Email Play is that there are no user groups as far as I know in my city. Also, the time differences make online play difficult in the normal sense too.
I note that you hosted the last one and from your posting it seems like it might have been a fairly exacting process!
If you could enlighten me with some idea of how the email game works it would be appreciated thanks. I have the Vassal and associated module and can run them but there are no other players up and running at my prime playing time.

MemberHi All,
Sorry to be a bit vague in my posts, but what I really was thinking/wondering was if it might be possible to set up an “old style” email game like playing email chess. The Dawn Patrol Physical Board would be set up on each players table and left up for the duration of the game and pieces moved according to the emails received.
It would mean that players would have to own a board set or at least print out a copy of the official playing mat if there is one. They could use their 1/144 models or a card as their plane.

MemberHey again VFC,
In the email games, emails are sent out with an attached “vlog file”. This file is read in Vassal and it shows the move of the player who sent it, square by square. The map and planes are on this file, so there isn’t a need for a hard copy (though the game master is usually responsible for ensuring legal moves and correcting errors). In fact, as the GM I preferred to have the map setup on my table to help me watch for any errors. But the players can opt to just use the vlog file map instead.
Sorry to hear that we are on opposite ends as far as prime time goes. Of course the email games will eliminate that problem. When we run a timer, we base it on Central Time, US. So your clock would perhaps be adjusted by a mere 9 or so hours from ours. We can figure that out when the time comes, as in when the next game will start up.
Keep your eyes on this forum for an upcoming egame alert, and I hope you will join in on that!
Mark
