ParticipantSo we started our campaign by rolling for sides, John H & Kurt are the Allies, John B & Andy are the Germans.
MISSION #1 (fighter vs fighter)- Oct 1916, 90 Wide Front, center at 5500. No Clouds, wind 10 W.
Germans decided to take up the Halberstadt DII [JB] & a Fokker EIII (AP) while the Brits went with an interesting ‘fighter’ mix of the Pup (JH) and risky pick of the Sop 1 1/2 (KK). The Allies seemed to have the advantage until turn #2, when John B scored a 1/1 pilot hit on the hapless Pup pilot (JH). He survived the wound and continued the fight though…until a few turns later when the Halb returned and scored a SECOND 1/1 pilot hit!! The second bullet proved to be too much and the mighty Pup spun to its demise…the hopes of getting one pilot to survive the war dashed in game #1 for John H!MISSION #2 (German Photo Recon) – Nov 1916, 90Front, 15 from Brit Lines. 3500 Base Alt, Cloud 5500-6100., wind 10 W
Germans decided to take up the trusty Halberstadt DII [JB] now with a 1/1 pilot! & and to complete the mission an Alb CVII (AP).
Brits went with another unorthodox ‘fighter’ mix and flew BOTH the Sop 1 1/2’s, risking the chance of NOT being able to complete their next photo recon mission!
The Alb moved first on turn 1 and dove away from the fight to complete his photo recon (which he did) while the Halb. mixed in a tight turning fight with the Strutters. Amazingly everyone missed at least 2 100ft shots, making for a VERY uneventful fight. Kurt dove down to attempt to attack Andy, but both fights ended after a few turns of dancing…I will post the official scoresheet soon, but I think the point totals after 2 games were something close to Germans – 115 Brits – 60
