KeymasterHi guys,
A quick update on the game last night. We had seven players for a May 1918 battle. Four Germans (Ken S – Alb DVa, John B – Alb DVa, Andy P – Hannover, Graham C – Pfalz DIIIa) surprised three British Camels, led by an experienced pilot (Kevan S, Carl F, Scott K).
Initially it looked to all be going the Germans’ way. With surprise, and some early damage, they shot up the Camels pretty well. Scott and Kevan, in particular, bore the brunt of the assault. Scott got called away from the game for a bit right after turn two (for a quick birthday celebration — not his!), and it looked grim for the British, especially since the Germans had moved the battle away from Carl, who had poor initiative rolls. Kevan helped turn the tide by putting two bullets (one on each of turn two and three) into Andy’s observer. With a light then a critical wound, the observer died … on his (lucky?) thirteenth mission! With no observer, and badly shot up, Andy escaped. Also, Scott returned (briefly) to re-engage, making the battle three on three.
Scott’s re-engagement didn’t last long. He suffered a power failure at home, effectively forcing him to escape. Kevan was very shot up by then, and smoking, but Carl got back into the action, and the bad initiative rolls moved over to John, who was forced to the fringes of the battle. So it was essentially Ken and Graham against Carl and Kevan, with Ken moving first a lot, and Graham moving last. After a couple of turns of that, Ken had absorbed a lot of damage (approx 25 hits in just two turns), and Graham was only returning fire with one gun, with the other jammed. Thankfully for the Germans they got an opportunity to escape, and seized it. The British seemed fairly happy to let them go, and unwilling to take much risk to press the attack — Kevan’s wings were almost shot off.
All pilots made it safely back to base, and Andy’s observer was the only casualty. There were no kills.
Next game is scheduled for Sunday, September 7th. I hope to see you there.

ParticipantIt was 29 hits in 2 turns – Carl had max damage 2 turns in a row (ouch) with John and Kevan chiping in a fair bit

KeymasterI remember Carl’s 8 hits twice in a row! Ouch is right. Hopefully it was Scott, not John, chipping in with Kevan. John was on our team! I know he wasn’t much help, but at least I don’t remember him shooting at you ; )
One good thing … when you take the damage all at once you have to roll fewer crit checks. You were great at avoiding critical hits!!
