We had a small but eventful game night tonight!

First, welcome to Dennis Elliott, who played his first online games tonight. I walked Dennis through the system for about 30 minutes, then we jumped in and flew two missions. Dennis gave a very positive review of the experience, but maybe he can post and tell you himself. Rounding out the foursome were Scott Kolar and Jeff McInnes. Turns out it was Jeff who had the hot hand tonight, and I should have watched TV instead of playing!

Game 1 was in August 1917, with an Alb and a Roland against two Sopwith Triplanes. Seemed like the Sopwiths would have lots of advantages, but it didn’t turn out that way. Scott and Graham, in the Tripes, both rolled low initiative on turn 1, but missed close range shots on Jeff. On turn 2, Jeff turned the tables and put a bullet in Scott’s pilot. It was a light wound, but Scott’s pilot immediately passed out and fell out of control. He eventually regained consciousness and landed safely just behind his own lines, but he died of his wounds. Jeff got credit for the kill. On turn 3 Jeff struck again, putting a bullet in Graham’s pilot on a mid range side shot, as Graham tried to get away. Graham rolled a “6” and that was that! The first game wrapped with a double kill for Jeff, and two dead Triplane pilots.

Game two was in November 1917. This time the Allies should have had an even bigger advantage. Graham and Scott were teamed up again, this time in Camel 130s. Dennis had an Albatros, and Jeff was in a Hannover. The camels were both plagued by high initiative numbers, especially Scott. After peppering Scott mercilessly, Scott made good his escape on turn 6. On turn 7 Graham moved first and tried to put distance between himself and the Germans, but Jeff got a 350′ tail shot for his observer. His aim was true, and he put a bullet in Graham’s Camel pilot. This time Graham “only” rolled a critical wound, and he dove away from combat. He made it down to 2650 feet before passing out. He under-dove, and regained consciousness at 1350′ … but then got stuck in a spin!! He augered into the ground, but survived with a miracle roll of 03%. A bright end to an otherwise dismal evening for the allies.

So Scott and Graham each lost a pilot, Jeff scored 3 kills, and Dennis was indoctrinated into the world of online Dawn Patrol. And he has already started recruiting some other players. Thanks Dennis!!

Next game night is on for Sunday, June 1. I hope you can make it.

    Graham
