    Hi Everyone,

Monday night FITS is in the books. We passed a major milestone tonight – for the first time we played two games simultaneously. We had 8 players, and consensus opinion was to split into two 4 vs 4 battles to give that a try, and to speed up play. Those two games ended quickly, and at about the same time. Two players retired for the evening, and the remaining six played another game all together.

Game 1, “hosted” by Graham, featured Fokker D.VIIs (Stephen Skinner in his inaugural Roll20 appearance and Graham) against British SE 5As (Stephen Eide and Ken) at high altitude in November 1918. Not a good matchup for the Brits. The Germans struck early and often, dealing out quite a bit of punishment. SE in the SE (cute, huh?) managed to make good his escape from SS, but Graham’s bullets struck home on Ken’s pilot. On turn 4 Graham dealt Ken a light pilot wound, with double 1’s from his rookie pilot. But Ken also had several crits, including a smashed instrument panel and a reduced dive. That proved problematic when his pilot immediately fell unconscious. He passed the first overdive check – a 400 footer – but failed the 200 foot overdive check on his second turn. The wings came off and Ken’s pilots hurtled to his demise, giving Graham a kill. It was nice to welcome Stephen S to Roll20 Dawn Patrol, and we hope he’s back soon!

Game 2, played at the same time as game 1, was “hosted” by John Buckland. It was the polar opposite of the first game. It was set in October 1916, with a Fokker D.II (TJ) and an Albatros D.II (Lynn) against an FE 2b (John) and a DH 2 (Jeff). John took an observer gun mount crit on the first turn, making him unable to fire to his right side! On turn 3 Jeff used up the last of his Lewis ammo, and he never managed to reload throughout the rest of the game. Jeff took a strut hit on turn 7, slashing his dive and eliminating fancy maneuvers (DH 2’s can do those?), but he managed to escape and land safely. TJ ended up with four engine hits and a magneto critical, slowing him down, but he and all the others made it back to home safely. Thanks to Lynn for recording the events of this game, while I was off shooting down Ken …

Game 3 was an August 1918 fight between US SPAD XIIIs (Lynn, Jeff and Ken) against two Fokker D.VIIs (TJ and Stephen E) and a Pfalz D.XII (Graham). John and Stephen S had retired after game 1. Lots of lead was flying, and early on it looked like the Germans would rule the skies. Lynn and Ken soaked up some early damage, but then they knocked the Germans onto the ropes. The yanks really pounded poor TJ – putting 9 in his tail and 9 more in his left wing. He was thrilled when Jeff and Lynn, both taking left side shots, put 3 out of the five hits in the forward fuselage, sparing his wing and tail and missing his pilot. At least he was thrilled until he rolled the fuel tank critical hit! He managed to escape under power, but his engine would eventually stop, with no fuel left in the tank. We were about 200 squares behind German lines and close to an emergency field, and TJ made the 60% (3 crits) landing chance. Jeff scored credit for the kill. The remaining Germans split up, with Jeff and Lynn chasing Stephen’s D.VII experienced pilot, Hans Offdagutz. They managed a few more hits, but with his superior aircraft performance, it was just a matter of a few turns before Stephen got away. It was harder for Graham, who had Ken all over him. Ken beat Graham for numbers 4 turns in a row, and there was nothing the Pfalz could do to evade the SPAD. Ken hit Graham for 6 hits then 5 hits before missing on the third shot. All the while Graham was taking the fight deeper behind German lines. Ken hit again on the fourth shot, but only for 1 hit factor. The 12 hits (total) were the first Graham had taken and they were all spread out, with no crits. After finally winning numbers Graham took one shot at Ken, hitting 5 times but with no visible effect. Ken shook Graham’s tail attempt, and the battle was over. Aside from TJ’s emergency landing, everyone else made it safely home.

We had three good games tonight, and things moved quite quickly. As we gain more Roll20 experience things are getting much smoother. The next time we play the Ace of Aces competition will be in effect, so get ready to score some missions!

For those of us who weren’t there it would be more informative if you included, at least once, the last name of all players. For example, Ken who and Jeff who?
