    Hi All,

We had another game tonight, and another new player. Welcome to Stephen’s wife Nicolle, who played her first-ever Dawn Patrol game! She didn’t have a lot of luck, but she made it home alive, which is a good start.

The mission saw three French Sopwith 1 1/2 Strutters (Stephen, Nicolle and Kelly) bombing a rail station behind German lines in April of 1917. Stephen had a single seater and a bigger bomb load, while Kelly and Nicolle had two seaters. The Germans sent up three Albatros D.IIs to intercept (Carl, Chris and Graham). The Sopwiths gained surprise, but bypassed the attack to dive and line up on their bombing run. The bombs fell on turn two, but all were misses!

Chris and Graham pounced on Nicolle on turn 2, doing a bit of damage, and inflicting an aileron hit, preventing her from making right turns. On turn 3 the battle moved off to her right (of course), and she took off for home, making good her escape. A short first game, and she never even got to fire a shot! The other five machines mixed it up for several turns, with lots of misses, poor damage rolls, and Chris jamming his guns a couple of times. By turn 8 the Sopwiths had had enough and dove away, trying to escape. The three Albs moved after both Sopwiths, but could only reach Kelly, who was already a bit shot up. Believing (correctly) that his observer must be out of damage, they all lined top and tail attacks, unable to get beneath him. They put 12 more hfs into his plane, and things were becoming serious. The next turn Graham kept Kelly under tailing cards. While he didn’t tail, it kept Kelly within reach of Carl and Chris, who shot him up again. This time they broke his rudder, cutting his turn speed to 50 mph and jammed him in a bank, causing him to fall OOC. He fell for two turns before ripping his wings off in a 400′ overdive! Stephen, who had turned back to help, beat a hasty retreat, and easily got away from the Albs. Both of Kelly’s crewmen died in the crash, and Carl won the dice-off for the kill.

Next scheduled game is Sunday night! I hope to see you there!

    Graham
