Here’s a recap of Monday night Dawn Patrol. We had five players and played one mission in about an hour, counting set up, etc..
It was yet another early battle. February 2, 1917, with three Belgians all in Nieuport 11s facing off against two Germans, one Alb D.III and one Roland D.I/II. Scott, Dennis and Graham had the Nieuports against Chris and TJ. The fight started high, at 13,000+ feet, so the planes weren’t moving fast. The Germans couldn’t take advantage of their superiority in weaponry, with some poor initiative rolls and some ill-timed misses. Dennis got pasted once (by TJ) for 8 hits, but otherwise the Germans weren’t dealing much damage. But with the single wing guns, the Belgians were only dishing out one or two hits at a time. On turn 4 the Belgians all got bursts off, and actually did 2 or 3 hits each, a remarkable improvement. One of those bursts was from Dennis to Chris, and a lucky slug found Chris’ propeller (nickel critical hit). Chris had to cut to low throttle and glide to a landing, which he safely accomplished at an emergency airfield. TJ, nervous to take on the three newly inspired Nieuports by himself, dove off into the sunset and the mission ended.
It was a light turnout , but the game moved quickly, and gave a couple of second time players (Dennis and TJ) some more experience with the system. With that experience, even the larger games will move more quickly.
Next scheduled game night is Sunday, June 8. I hope to “see” you there!
