Wow, 9 players tonight! We had a great turnout for Sunday Night Dawn Patrol.

With lots of people, and a couple of people playing for the first time, AND Jim Barber in the game, we ran a bit slower than usual. We got in one mission, set in September of 1917. It was 90 squares behind German lines, with no wind or clouds. It was the Germans …
    Chris O. — Alb D.V
    Graham C. — Alb D.III
    Jeff M. — Alb D.III
    Andy P. — Alb D.III

    versus the French …
    Jim B. — SPAD XIII
    TJ O. — SPAD XIII
    John B. — SPAD VII
    Scott K. — SPAD VII
    Lynn H. — Nieuport ?

Jeff and Graham pounced on Lynn on turn 1, putting 11 hfs into his tail, and shooting his wings up pretty good. Both tailed him, and he took a dive card on turn 2. Lynn escaped on turn 3, after falling below the climbing scrum of planes. With 5 in one wing and 4 in the other, he didn’t want to push his luck — or those fragile Nieuport wings. That evened the odds.

Things got interesting on turn 4. TJ blasted Andy’s motor, giving him a fuel line hit, and cutting his engine out. Andy would eventually glide to a safe landing behind his lines. On the same turn, John Buckland took a (no effect) oil leak, that added smoke to his plane. The odds were back in the favor of the Allies, but with John B smoking.

On turn 5 Graham put 7 hits into the bottom of Jim’s plane — the second time he had done that. Four of the hits found the motor, and shot Jim’s prop off. He would eventually glide to a landing just behind his own lines, but he failed a landing (80%) on a good road, and then failed the (70%) survival roll! His pilot, on his 7th mission, met a very unfortunate end. That brought things back to 3 on 3.

On turn 6 John B escaped in his smoking SPAD, and then the other two Frenchmen escaped on turn 7. Scott had no hits in his plane, but his gun was jammed. TJ didn’t feel up to scrapping with 3 Albs all on his own!

So there were two kills credited — TJ on Andy, and Graham on Jim.

Next game night is Monday, June 2nd at 7pm central time.
    Graham
