    Hi everyone,

Earlier today, at the request of Andy Priest, we took advantage of the holiday and held a special daytime edition of online Dawn Patrol. We had seven players for the first game, and six players stayed for a second game. Ethan Skinner played his first two online missions today — welcome Ethan!

Game 1 saw four German Albatros D.V’s face off against three British SPAD XIIIs in November of 1917. The British mis-read the random AC chart without realizing the SPAD XIIIs weren’t available until December! Must have been a special test mission. TJ Osborne, Jim Barber, Ethan Skinner and I were German. Andy, Carl Fritz and Stephen Skinner were British. Andy and Carl both had experienced pilots. The British dished out some punishment, and drove off all four huns pretty quickly, but not before the Alb’s drew blood. On turn 3 TJ put a bullet in Carl’s pilot, giving him a light wound. The Germans all escaped shortly thereafter, and made it safely back to base. Carl wasn’t so lucky. He made it back past his own lines and found a road to land on. He couldn’t land his SPAD though, and Herbert Lawson (15M, 3K) died in the crash. TJ successfully claimed credit for the kill.

Jim left after the first game, leaving us with six for Game 2. To honor Independence Day we decided the allied forces would be American. Stephen, TJ and Graham had the Nieuport 28s against Carl and Ethan in Albatrosses and Andy in a Pfalz D.XII. Like the first game, this one was short, and a bit bloody. There were two pilot hits on turn three — Carl put a slug (LW) in Stephen’s pilot, and Graham hit Andy (CW). The two Albs dove away on turn 4, making good their escapes. Stephen made it back to his own lines, where like Carl in the prior game, he failed a landing on a road just behind his own lines. His crash was a spectacular end over end roll, but amazingly, his pilot lived. Carl got credit for bringing down Stephen. Andy wasn’t so fortunate. He started down toward the ground, where he would be safely behind German lines. But he couldn’t hold on, and fell unconscious. The Pfalz plowed into the earth, and Andy’s pilot died in the crash, with Graham getting kill credit. That brought Graham’s US pilot, Douglas McBain, to 3 kills in just 4 missions.

Next scheduled game is on Sunday night, July 6. We hope you can make it.

Sorry that Carl lost his experience pilot! Tough losing a 15M guy!
