    Hi gang,

We just wrapped Sunday night Dawn Patrol Eight different players made appearances, and we flew two quick missions in just under two hours total.

Game 1 saw 3 Pfalz D.IIIs (Graham, Andy, and John, with John flying an ace) escorting a Hannover CL.IIIa (Stephen) on a ground attack mission. They were intercepted by three French SPAD VIIs (Jim, Ken and Carl). All the SPADs moved first on turn 1, diving down to force the Germans to take long top shots. John and Andy obliged, but missed. It turned into a real dogfight on turn 2. Graham and John double-teamed Carl, and John took two attacks as well. Graham rolled max damage, hitting Carl 8 times and putting 4 in his engine. Carl dodged the critical, but that shot decided the game. Jim dove down to protect Carl in case he dove, but Carl topped-out and climbed away. All four Germans had formed up in a box, and Ken came in for a shot on Andy. He did some damage, but nothing decisive. With Carl already running away and Jim about 1500 feet below the fight, Jim and Ken both made good their escapes on turn 4. All machines made it back safely to base.

Game 2 featured a Camel (Stephen, with a double ace) escorting two Bristol 190s (Kevan and Ken), when they ran into an Albatros D.II (Carl) escorting a Rumpler C.IV (Graham). Both sides were on their way to their missions — the British a ground attack, the Germans a recon sortie. The Brits surprised the Germans. Kevan and Ken’s fire was relatively ineffective, but Stephen’s Camel ace poured 7 hits into Graham’s Rumpler, including hitting the observer twice!! The wound was only light, though, but the Germans weren’t sure which crewman Stephen had hit. Graham had 5 in his right wing, as well, and feigning a critically wounded pilot, dove quickly toward his own lines. Stephen tailed him on the first turn, but missed his 150 shot, and Kevan’s observer missed as well. Carl overdove 150′ to get a good shot on Stephen, kept his wings, but only did 4 hfs! On the next turn (#3), Graham shook Stephen with a stall card, and Kevan had moved first. Graham made good his escape, and Carl bugged out as well. No one had taken any criticals, so landings were all routine. That just left the 70% survival roll for Graham’s observer, which he failed (of course). It wasn’t even close (roll of 97). Rolf Yodl, on his 8th mission, bit the dust!

So no kills in either game tonight, and only my observer made the ultimate sacrifice for his country.

Next game is tomorrow, Monday July 14.

Correction. My overdive was only 100 feet.

That’s right, thank you. It was a 15% chance, that’s what confused me.
