We played two fast games tonight.

First game was Nov 1918, big block Fokkers (Scott and Graham) against British Camels (Andy and Jeff). It was the game of called shots. On at least 4 occasions the target requested a specific to hit roll from his attacker, and the attacker obliged with exactly that roll. The best was on turn 2, when Graham had both Camels on his tail and he managed to stretch them out to 200′ shots … he requested a “5” from both of them, and they both rolled 5’s! In fact I don’t recall anyone making a request that wasn’t honored.

Anyway, Jeff and Andy shot up Scott pretty badly, while Graham was plagued by double-digit initiative rolls. When Graham finally got a good number, he put a whopping 3 hits into Jeff, but took out a strut on the Camel, as well! Scott escaped, and Graham, not wanting to fight both Camels alone (and not knowing about Jeff’s strut hit), beat a hasty retreat as well. All four pilots made it home safe and sound.

The second game was in Aug 1917, with Andy in a Halberstadt heading toward a ground attack mission, with Graham escorting in an Alb D.V. They were intercepted by two British N.17s (Jeff and Scott). The British didn’t have much going for them. Jeff jammed his gun on the first turn, and it ended up being permanently jammed. Andy took only a couple of hits before breaking off combat (he had another place to be!). Graham dogged Scott for four turns, tailing successfully, but unable to do much. He did minimum damage once and missed twice. He did manage to land 4 CW hits, though. He couldn’t hit the pilot but he did shoot off Scott’s gun! Both Nieuports used their superior performance to escape the Alb, and the battle ended. Scott’s pilot, shaken by all the bullets landing close to his person and distracted by the damaged gun, crashed on landing at his home field. Fortunately he walked away from the wreck. All of the other crewman made it home safely, include Andy’s observer, who had completed his 13th mission.

Next game is tomorrow, Sunday Aug 31. Hope to see you there!
    Graham
