Hey guys can you set up an Acelist form on this site? I need to talk to Dennis about getting a form in this Aerodrome as well.

I apologize for not responding sooner. I saw your message one day before I left for work and did not have time to respond – then I forgot all about it and it was no longer highlighted in my new messages – sorry!

Anyway, my thoughts on the Ace List are that I could use the form that already exists for the DP PILOTS function on the website. At this time that function is only for FITS members to track their entire list of pilots in a database, but perhaps I can offer it for non-paid FITS members to track aces only and for FITS members to track all of their pilots with no restrictions? Or, is it time to just open that function to all who at least create a web account here (whether they are paid up for FITS or not)?

I will run this by Mike and anyone who wants to – please feel free to comment here.

I think Jim is looking for exactly what you have already built. The only function that he may additionally be looking for is a way to print the results. Dan, did you get the Aerodrome last year that had the ace list insert? I think he is looking for a way to gather this info again this year on the website.

I dont think you should change the access levels, as this should continue to be a FITS members privilege. my 2 cents :)

I do have that list and it is also in the Downloads area. The only problem I see is that I would prefer to have people registered on the website and submitting their own pilots. If we maintain the Ace List for people, then there is going to be duplicate entry of pilots required for paid FITS members who already use the DP-PILOTS tool. Also, if we were to add pilots for people, and combine them with those already entered via DP-PILOTS, then eventually data would still be duplicated. This would occur when someone’s pilots were entered for them, but they later joined FITS and decided to use DP-PILOTS. They would likely re-enter pilots already on the ace list.

Am I making sense here? I still need some more coffee this morning…

    Sorry for the confusion.

Hey Dan I want to set up a form that any Paid member can access and print or just soft copy. From there they can email it to me or Snailmail it to me. This will then be used to compile the Ace list for publication. Including all those ratio thingies we love so much. The same one Rick used last year works for me just slap a 2009 sticker over it.

This one that rick used – was it an online form or just from the Aerodrome? I do not have access to the code from the old website but I might be able to get it from former host – if not I can create something new.

hold on here… before we get too far in creating something else new… Jim – have you seen the tool that Dan has built on this site for listing pilots? I think we could just use (possibly modify slightly) this and have anyone that wants to submit their pilots just create their list on this website. You could then in turn take the info from here and create any stats you want for the Aerodrome. make sense?
That way we dont have multiple forms out there & confused users.

I have begun work on utilizing the current tool for the Ace List. Check for it by the end of this weekend.

Initial Ace List functionality deployed to DP-PILOTS tool. Please try out the new ace list functions and let me know what you think. You can apply filters as needed to get the list you want, such as all ‘Active’ ‘British’ Aces. We do have the “Displayed Name” column in the DP-PILOTS account settings that I can add to the ace list page. Before I do that though, I am going to add a drop-down or free form entry field for ‘Squadron/Group’, which will also show up on the ace list. Look for this sometime this week. I will post here once it is in place.

Consider this Ace List Beta Release 0.5 :)

Now our biggest problem will be getting everyone to enter their pilot info.

I just made quite a few Ace List updates to the DP-PILOTS tool. In addition to a few style sheet changes, you can now select your squadron in the “Edit My Settings” area of the “Options” screen. Any aces you have entered will be listed on the FITS Ace List and will also show your “Displayed Name” and your squadron’s abbreviation. I entered 6 squadrons that I know of.

If any of the squadron data needs to be edited or new squadrons need to be added, then please reply to this thread with the appropriate info and I will add that squadron info manually.

If you do not have access to the DP-PILOTS tool on the FITS Only tab of this website, then please consider joining FITS!
