Just a quick recap of Sunday night action. It was a late war battle, with four French SPAD XIIIs (John, Chris, Jeff, Graham) surprising three Germans (Carl – SSW, Ken and Jim – D.VIIs). The French weren’t terribly effective in their shooting, until Jeff managed a pilot hit on Ken. It was only a light wound, but Ken dove quickly away. Not fooled, Jeff gave pursuit, and Jim went to his aid. That split up the battle, with two on one down low, three SPADs trying to re-engage, and Carl, with bad numbers, staying out of harm’s way (after having been tailed several times, and shaking the tails). Ken shook Jeff when Jeff got jammed in a bank left, and then made good his escape, he made it safely to an emergency field and survived the wound. Jeff did get kill credit.
Jeff ultimately evaded Jim and flew off as well. The two Fokkers didn’t want to let the three remaining SPADs re-engage, so they broke off combat. There were lots of people scoring, but no particularly good scores.
