We had four players for our Sunday night game, with a couple of regulars away. It was a June 1918 battle with two Pfalz D.IIIa’s (Andy and Graham) taking on a pair of Brisfit 275’s (Scott and Jeff). The Pfalz’s — well, Andy really — chased Scott away early. He bugged out after turn 5, with 17 hits in his machine and a no effect wound to his observer. Then the two Pfalz’s descended on Jeff. Graham managed to crit Jeff’s engine, making him smoke and cutting his performance down just enough to match the Pfalz’s. That proved difficult for Jeff, as he struggled to shake the Germans. They hung with him, tailing, and peppering his Brisfit. Even when they would lose a tail, Jeff would oblige with a high initiative roll.
By the end of turn 15 Jeff had had enough. He had soaked up 36 hits (23 from Graham, 13 from Andy) and his aircraft was in tatters, with 5 critical hits. Andy had hit Jeff’s observer, too, but it was another NE wound. Jeff had put a light wound into Andy, when Andy braved a head on shot to try to get a good tail shot on Jeff, sensing the end was near. So Jeff cut his engine and glided to a crash landing behind his own lines. The crash ripped off a wing, but both crewmen walked away. Graham out-diced Andy for the force-down kill.
