For face-to-face gaming, I play most Sundays with a group of friends. About half the time we play a swords & sorcery RPG campaign using the Rolemaster system and the rest of the time is an assortment of diverse boardgames – games that have been popular lately include Twilight Imperium, Arkham Horror, various editions of Risk, Settlers of Catan, Talisman, Empire Builder. Dawn Patrol has never caught on with this group, but fortunately I have Vassal for that fix.
Computer gaming tends to be a winter hobby for me. I tend to gravitate towards the grand civ/strategy games like Hearts of Iron, Crown of Glory, Europa Universalis, Galactic Civilization, or the Total War series. But I’ve been watching the development of the Over Flanders Fields add-on for Microsoft’s Combat Flight Simulator and it looks so good I’ve decided that it will be my winter gaming distraction if it comes out in time.
